The world is not short of Billionaires and though new billionaires come up every now and then, most of the billionaires in the world today are born from money. Whether we are talking of the Rothschilds, Saudi’s, the Communist Party Members in China or most of the other Billionaires, the narrative is the same.
You have probably heard the phrase, ‘Money follows Money.’ This is what world billionaires live by. So what led to the surge in the number of Dollar Billionaires and how did they get that wealth?
The Billion Clique
It is said in low tones that the world is controlled by a certain clique. One of those is the World Economic Forum (WEF). Recently, some of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful men met in Davos Switzerland to discuss how to further their interests in the guise of building a resilience muscle for the global economy. The meeting is an invite only and as some quarters say, these men and women shape the economics of the world. A report by Bloomberg indicated that about 116 Billionaires had been listed to attend the Davos WEF meeting, 40% more than a decade ago.
NUMBER OF DOLLAR BILLIONAIRES IN THE WORLD
According to the research company Wealth-X, more than 2,100 people have become billionaires in the past ten years. Wealth-X is a global wealth intelligence and prospecting firm that offers detailed data on people with extremely high net worth (UHNWIs). It gathers, arranges, and examines data on UHNWIs to offer a thorough insight of their riches, way of life, and charitable endeavors.
According to UBS and PWC, there are roughly 2153 Billionaires in the world as of the time of writing this article with an estimated fortune of close to $10 trillion, an increase of about 297% from the last decade. Their wealth is projected to rise to about $11.2 Trillion by the end of 2023.
RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD
The two countries with the most billionaires in the world are China and the United States with roughly 614 and 572, respectively. India has about 122 billionaires, followed by Germany with 107, Russia with 96, and the United Kingdom with 96. (95).
Forbes predicts that in 2023, there will be more billionaires on every continent. Globally, it predicts that there would be 2,389 billionaires in 2023, up from 2,153 in 2021. North America will have the most number of billionaires by the end of this year with an estimated number of 1,139 billionaires, followed by 849 in Asia-Pacific, and 291 in Europe. With only 39 billionaires, Africa will have the fewest billionaires, while South America will have 126.
With a total of 522 billionaires, more than double the number in 2010, the technology industry has experienced the highest growth in billionaires over the past ten year.
